National Emergency Alert Test on Sunday 7th September
Posted on:
The UK Government is sending a test emergency alert to mobile phones across the UK at around 3pm on Sunday 7 September.
Emergency alerts are used to send vital information and advice rapidly to people in emergencies. During the test, mobile phones will vibrate and make a loud siren sound for roughly ten seconds, even if they are set to silent.
Some people may need to take action to avoid receiving this test alert eg victims of domestic abuse with a concealed phone. In such cases, the person will need to opt out of receiving alerts. There is guidance on the gov.uk website about how to opt out.
